Bell Plastics acquires National Taxi Cab Supply
Bell Plastics acquires National Taxi Cab Supply
National Taxi Cab Supply
Bell Plastics of Hayward, CA has acquired the assets of National Taxi Cab Supply. Founded in 1956 National Taxi Cab Supply has been providing Taxis and Limos with everything they need to run their business. Supplying everything but the vehicles and drivers. With strong internet competition NTCS product line has dwindled to only their top lights and meters were left. The only thing National Taxi Supply still made in house was their high quality top lights that they built the business on.
One great thing about National Taxi Cab Supply’s top lights is that each top light is still made to order. So if you want a red main light with a white vacancy light on top. We can supply it with your choice of lettering and different color tat-tail lights. And we do it 95% of the time in 24 hours.
Changes
The top lights will fit well with Bell Plastics’ other production lines. Bell Plastics has already added back, some top lights that have been discontinued due to aging machinery with more planned for early 2017. There are still 20 plus molds that have not been run in over 20 years.
Bell Plastics is also planning to keep a large supply of stock top lights for customers that can’t wait the 1-2 days it takes to make one from scratch.
National Taxi Cab Supply was still manufacturing the top lights the same way they did in 1956 when they opened. Bell Plastics drew on its 38 years of custom plastics knowledge to redesign most of National Taxi Cab Supply manufacturing methods and the lights.
We have temporarily stopped selling and installing meters. Several manufactures of meters have asked us to carry their lines. However we are waiting until we know a little more about what people want in a meter.
We see good things in National Taxi Cab Supply’s future and are looking forward to working with their suppliers and customers.

Jack in the Box gets a new life. Plastic and metal repairs.

Fifty year old Jack in the Box as delivered to us.
The beginning
We take on a lot of unusual projects, but this one really stands out. When Jack first arrived, he was only half there, faded and broken.
The customer said the only other one left was at Jack in the Box’s Corp offices. Since then a few more turned up.
He wanted it restored to original.
He called several other plastic companies but none were interested in his project. A couple suggested calling Bell Plastics but because we were so far away he did not want to make the trip. Finally, he had business locally and decided to bring Jack with him. He was surprised when I said “no big deal”.
Jack in the Box, Metal and plastic repairs
First of all, we took it apart.
The steel frame was sandblasted, missing parts were replaced, repaired and re-welded.
A missing access door was made to close up the top sheet metal.
Later the frame was powder coated to match the original color.
Using 3 different plastics and 7 different colors of plastic. Jack got new ears, hair, hat and collar. We also made spare parts.
A new speaker box cover was made and powder coated black.
Acrylic sign boards with custom vinyl letters filled in the missing sides.
A new custom steel stand raised it back off the ground and finished the project.
The customer was very happy with the finished piece. He has installed it in his backyard.

Jack In the Box finished
The end, happy customer!
Because almost all of the work was in house, we got it done in weeks, not months.
Finally, when done, it looked just like the original.
Since this one, we have help two others to repair their Jack in the Box heads.
Repairing plastic parts, Rebuilding & Replacing
Repairing plastic parts take all kinds of shapes. What about that vintage dresser with the glass-front drawers that you inherited from Aunt Mildred. (Everyone has an Aunt Mildred, don’t they?) Maybe that old crack isn’t giving it ‘character’ so much as becoming safety hazard?
We can fix that for you, too!
Here you can see that we’ve found the perfect color of green textured acrylic and bent it specifically to the existing drawer-front. Good as new!

Vintage Glass Dresser Drawer
Industrial tanks have thousands of applications and each type has its own properties and purpose. Tanks can be a substantial investment in the infrastructure of your company, and a necessary expense if you have to replace them. But when the flange on your tank starts leaking, or is worn, or has grime in the seals, who do you call?

Tank Flanges Before & After
Us!
Because we can custom-fit new flanges, repair leaky tanks, even replace old and leaky fittings so you don’t have to replace your entire tank.
*Yes, it’s NOT the same flange & tank. It’s just an example?
Here, we used the original frosted glass bell to make a mold, then used it to form the plastic version. We fabricated the new parts with frosted acrylic and then buffed them to match the old parts. Side by side, the differences are obvious, but once hung, the new blended in beautifully with the old.

Bell Light Fixture Old & New
If you have something you’ve been thinking might be nicer with a little care and TLC, bring it by and get a quote. We’d love to help renew your old goods and make them beautiful again!
KAYAK REPAIR STEPS
Repairing plastic parts
The customer had a Kayak that someone cut a piece out of the bottom of the hull. Luckily they still had the missing piece. We beveled both the hull and its missing piece. Then we tacked the missing piece back in place with a plastic welder. We didn’t have any welding rod that matched the boat so we used white to weld the piece back in place. The last thing we did was remove the extra welds and smoothed out the bottom of the hull.

Airstream Trailer Windows
We can fix that for you!
Here, you can see the old faded Airstream trailer window with a large break in it side by side with the new window that we created to replace it. It’s so shiny!
Airstream window replacement Custom plastic windows
Airstream Window Replacement
Airstream trailers have been traveling along American highways since the 1920s. They managed to maintain production through the Great Depression by providing a living space for families displaced. Only during World War II, when aluminum was at a premium, did they cease operations completely. After the war they came back and have grown in popularity ever since.

For a while Airstream built the trailers in Germany. When Airstream stopped making the trailers in Germany 700 plus owners were left without replacement windows.

Replacement Airstream window. Before and after.
Replacement Airstream window. Before and after.
Airstream Window Replacement
The window had three thick layers making an air tight, twin wall, window that insulated the trailer. Like most windows we get, it came in kit form and had to be taped back together with some large pieces missing. Because of the missing pieces we had to make molds before making the new windows.
We make hundreds of replacement windows and windshields.
Tiger Mech Costume Fanime 2012 show stopper
Tiger Mech Costume a Fanime 2012 show stopper!
Costume creation gives us a break from the usual!
Bringing fantasy costume dreams to reality are some of our favorite projects. But when the stars align, the design is right, and the time-frames work, we love to custom build costumes.
So when a customer came to us for help with his Tiger Mech suit for Fanime 2012, we wholeheartedly embraced the challenge!
We only made the molds, vacuum formed and lightly trimmed the pieces. Our customer did all the finish work. He also attached all pieces to the suit.

We worked from!
He gave us a 6 inch Tiger Mech figure and a few photos to work from.
The helmet crest piece, in translucent green acrylic, is stunning!
Our customer had a great time at Fanime 2012, everyone want to know where he got his costume. He put 150 plus hours into the little details. I would think their hearts skipped a beat when they heard the cost.
I believe there are 16 different molds 4 of the molds were used for 2 parts. Plus 6 parts that did require molds. Totaling 26 parts plus a few spares.
We still make him a few parts for his new costumes.
Check out our slideshow below for details of some of our work on this costume!
Most of the parts are vacuum formed using acrylic and styrene.

Pet ramp FAQ frequently asked questions
Pet Ramp FAQ
Answers to some commonly asked Pet Ramp questions.
Have a question that isn’t answered here? Please give us a call. 510 – 784- 1111

10″ X 43″
14″ X 43″
14″ X 55
What sizes of Pet Ramps do you make?
Small: 10″ x 43″
Standard: 14″ x 43″
Extra wide: 20″ x 43″
Extra long: 14″ x 55
What are your pet ramps made of?
Our ramps are made of of ABS. They are vacuum formed from a single piece of plastic. There are no hinges or levers to break. The ramp is also completely waterproof and easily washed.

20″ X 43″ white pet ramp
What pet ramp is best for my Dog? (Cat, Rabbit, Chinchilla, etc)
In general animals 15 pounds or smaller will be quite at home on a 10″ pet ramp. While larger dogs with broader stances will be more comfortable on an extra-wide ramp. Cats, rabbits, chinchillas, etc will usually be fine on a smaller ramp as long it’s not too steep of an angle. Only you know your pets abilities! A three legged or tail-less cat might not have the balance to be comfortable climbing a 10″ wide ramp. Where as an active fearless kitten may have no problem bounding up and down. The best thing to do is measure your pets stance as shown below and then add an inch to each side. This measurement gives the minimum width at which your pet will feel comfortable and safe. That being said, we’ve met many border collies who are more than agile enough for a 10″ ramp.

Since 1979 Bell Plastics has made great plastic parts.

It will also hold me!
I drive a RAV4, Mazda, Miata or Jeep Cherokee… What ramp will fit my car?
We can only speak to the vehicles that we own and drive. The best thing to do is measure your vehicle to make sure our ramps will work for you. Take a measuring tape, extend it to 43″ (our standard ramp size) or 55″ (our extra long ramp size). Lay it at an angle as shown in the picture below to determine how steep it will be. If it’s too steep for your pet to climb, you’re better off with another ramp. Also measure your door opening. Our 14″ ramps don’t fit the back door openings of many compact cars, and many dogs are just too big to use a 10″ wide ramp.

Take the maybe out before ordering. Measuring before ordering will take the maybe out.
What if my dog or cat won’t use the ramp?
Any pet can be taught to use a ramp.
Start small and increase the height slowly.
We also have training tips in our blog. Don’t rush your pet, some animals have a difficult time with new things. Most animals can be tempted with treats, and all animals require patience.
How do I keep the ramp from slipping on tile, cement or wood surfaces?
Permanently ramps.
Worried about slippage, we sell pet ramp brakes that can be permanently bolted in place.
Portable ramps.
A scrap of shag carpet a little wider than the base of the ramp will prevent slippage.
Also when I use a ramp with my car and there is a steep angle. I place my foot on the end of the ramp to keep it from slipping.
Hardwood floors and ramps.
Putting felt, rubber or a piece of carpet on the bottom end of the ramp can keep it from scratching hardwood floors.

While it took a while we got BoBo to use the ramp. Less then two days.
Pet ramp FAQ
My dog slips on the slick surface?
With time your dog will find the cross braces and learn to use them.
How much does a ramps weigh?
The small ramp weighs 5 pounds, the regular ramp is 7 pounds, extra-long is 8 pounds and the 20 x 43 weighs 10 pounds. All are light enough to lift and stow with one hand, leaving a hand free for holding the leash!
Do you make ramps in more colors?
Our ramps are available in black and white for most sizes. White is more expensive then black. If you want 500 blue pet ramps. We can have material made to order. If you only need one or two spray paint will work.
Can I use your ramp for something besides pets?
Sure! Just don’t exceed the weight limit, or use it in an unsafe manner (They are NOT designed for skateboarding stunts, etc!). All ramps are made for use up to 125 lbs animals.
Can I use a ramp in a pool?
Absolutely! We actually have a customer who purchases our ramps for her ducks. Duck feet are made of delicate cartilage that can be damaged by rough surfaces such as gravel, concrete or metal mesh. Once damaged, they develop the duck equivalent of boxer’s cauliflower ear. In some cases crippling them for life.
The end of the ramp does have a tendency to float. We recommend filling a sport sock full of clean aquarium gravel or sand, tying it securely and laying it across the bottom of the ramp to prevent floating.
Is the ramp waterproof?
Our ramps can be hosed, washed, rinsed, left in the rain and tucked into the pool. Exposure to chlorine and direct sunlight over time will eventually discolor the ramp.
How do I clean the ramp?
It’s 100% waterproof! Just hose it off or give it a wipe with a damp rag, and you’re good to go!
What if the ramp is to steep?
It may be best if you don’t use it. If you need just a little less angle you can bolt a 2 X 4 or a 4 X 4 to the end.
More Pet ramp FAQ
Finally, I give up can I return the ramp? Yes, you can return it, we will refund the full price of the pet ramp. We don’t refund any shipping cost.
